Martial Arts Exchange Committee of CCFPA Officially Established

On August 28, 2025, the Martial Arts Exchange Committee of China-Cyprus Friendship Promotion Association was officially established. The Committee is committed to promoting the overseas dissemination and development of Chinese martial arts and deepening sports and cultural exchanges between China and Cyprus.

The Committee was initiated and led in preparation by Zhou Tsz Shan Sam (Jeffrey), a student at Cheltenham College in the United Kingdom and a martial arts enthusiast, who serves as President of the Committee. Using Chinese martial arts as a carrier, the Committee is committed to building an internationally-oriented sports and cultural exchanges platform and promoting folk friendly exchanges between China and Cyprus.

Chinese martial arts is not only a traditional sport but also an embodiment of the peace concept of “The True Purpose of Martial Arts is to Stop Conflict” and the philosophy of “Unity of Heaven and Humanity,” making it an important cultural carrier for promoting mutual learning among civilizations.

Zhou Tsz Shan Sam (Jeffrey) , who has practiced martial arts since childhood, has not only achieved excellent results in long-term training and competitions but has also gradually developed a deep understanding of the cultural spirit of martial arts. During his upbringing, he studied, took part in exchanges, and traveled in the United Kingdom, Cyprus, and various parts of Europe. The curiosity and interest shown by people from different cultural backgrounds in Chinese martial arts made him more deeply aware of the unique value of martial arts in international cultural exchanges.

During his time in Cyprus, he spontaneously organized small-scale martial arts experience activities, inviting local friends to participate in learning and exchanges. The activities were warmly welcomed by local residents and allowed more people to learn about Chinese culture through martial arts.

Following its establishment, the Committee will carry out martial arts experience, cultural exchanges, and international cooperation activities, further promoting the dissemination and development of Chinese martial arts in Europe and advancing China-Cyprus cultural exchanges to a new stage.

According to the Committee’s constitution, the Martial Arts Exchange Committee of China-Cyprus Friendship Promotion Association is a non-profit social organization voluntarily formed by martial arts enthusiasts, cultural promoters, and individuals concerned about friendly exchanges between the two countries. It aims to use Chinese martial arts as a bridge to promote sports and cultural exchanges between the two countries and enhance mutual understanding and friendship among their peoples.

In the future, the Committee will carry out multi-level work around martial arts teaching, cultural exchanges, competition events, and international cooperation. For example, it will conduct martial arts training classes, youth martial arts summer camps, and master exchange courses in Cyprus and the European region; organize martial arts culture festivals, performances, photo exhibitions, and film and television screenings to introduce the philosophy and cultural connotation behind Chinese martial arts to local residents; and organize China-Cyprus martial arts friendly matches and exchange visits to promote mutual visits and cooperation between martial arts organizations, athletes, and coaches of the two countries.

At the same time, the Committee will also offer public welfare martial arts experience classes for local youth and children of overseas Chinese, using martial arts as a cultural link to promote understanding and integration between different cultures and contributing to the standardized dissemination and sustainable development of Chinese martial arts in the European region.

The establishment of the Martial Arts Exchange Committee of China-Cyprus Friendship Promotion Association not only provides a new platform for Chinese martial arts to “go global” but also opens up new cooperation space for China and Cyprus in the fields of sports, culture, and folk exchanges. Going forward, the Committee will continue to promote the dissemination and development of martial arts culture in Europe, further advancing China-Cyprus cultural exchanges to a broader stage.
